Dorothea Staes has been a doctoral researcher at the law faculty of both the
Université libre de Bruxelles and the Université Saint-Louis (2012-2017).
Promoted by Professors Isabelle Rorive (Université libre de Bruxelles) and
Sébastien Van Drooghenbroeck (Université Saint-Louis), she defended her PhD in
2017, entitled “When the European Court of Human Rights refers to External
Instruments. Mapping and Justifications”. In recent years, Dorothea has issued
several publications on fundamental rights protection.
